Round Museum

There are no words, and yet there are not enough. In the tragic horror of the events of 9/11, mundane objects became stark symbols of the immense disaster. This 10,000 pound elevator motor from the World Trade Center propelled people to 100 story heights, but remains part of the twisted rubble as sacred epitaph of the collapse.

The Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts is distinguished by a 120 foot diameter metallic silver, basketball-shaped sphere at the center of its architectural footprint. The sphere and all of the exhibits inside have been refurbished and the museum reopened in May 2021, featuring over 40,000 square feet of basketball history. In the center of this sphere is the Jerry Colangelo "Court of Dreams," a full sized basketball court for visitors to test their skills. Look up. It's jump ball time at center court.

Walking along 110th Street, there's an air of mystery. The setting sun casts a shadow over a hulking, plain gray building, a massive box of Brutalist architecture. As we walk around the facade it's only distinctions are occasional wall sections with a metal lattice-work of Rounds. Turning on Amsterdam Avenue we come upon a target-like grid pattern around a metal entryway. What are these symbols? Who's in there? Men In Black?
