The rays of light emanating from the sun hit the earth at all kinds of angles depending on the time of day, the season, or the year. In certain circumstances, the light will produce optical phenomena forming a circle around the sun. In cold climates ice crystals refract the light into a halo. In warmer climates water droplets or tiny ice crystals diffract the light into a corona.

The pool may not seem like a place requiring a scuba tank, generally. Maybe there are some beginner diving lessons we can take, or underwater pool maintenance, or perhaps someone has lost a wedding ring down there somewhere. Whatever the case, what the professionals call a "diving cylinder" is at the ready, we're just waiting on the professional.

Looking like some sort of woodland confectionery treats, twin earthstars burst forth from the forest floor. Known scientifically as Geastrums, when these mushrooms grow to maturity, their outer layers peel back and separate into a star-shaped bowls surrounding inner spore sacs. Puts the fun back into fungi, doesn't it?
