Tomato: fruit or vegetable? Descartes didn't tackle that question, but it is a familiar debate. Maybe you have your own thoughts. Ask a botanist, she will say fruit – it is the ripened ovary containing the seeds of the plant. All other parts of the plant are considered vegetable. But ask the Supreme Court (Nix v. Hedden, 1886), and they will say... vegetable. Why? Because people THINK tomatoes are vegetables, therefore they are.

This little piggy is Round. Why is that? So their tails are harder to catch, of course. Well, that's one of several internet theories anyway. One thing that is clear is genetics are at work and human propensity for choosing cute is the cause. Domesticated little piggies tend to have curly tails while wild little piggies have straight. Wee wee wee all the way home!

Summer is over, but the waves still flow. At the water's edge, the back and forth metronome of surf and foam washes away footprints and reveals bubbling Rounds, little air pockets released by the force of rushing water, or by sand fleas or crabs. Advance. Retreat. Bubble.

It's been written that King Henry VIII loved the game of Shuffleboard, so much so that he frequently played and gambled on it heavily. You might imagine such a match against the King -- sending your shots toward the scoring triangle, knocking his biscuits aside, racking up winning points. But, remembering the fate of a couple of his wives... well, maybe taking off 10 penalty points would be better than your head.

If you were to concoct a golf tournament, you might start with a group of friends, some of whom don't play golf frequently. And you might begin play just as the sun is going down when it slowly becomes more difficult to see. Then, how about all teeing off simultaneously and playing across the course in an erratic fashion? And why not bring along a delicious gin & tonic beverage in a one liter bottle? One per person? Sure, why not!
