They say you can't fit a square peg into a round hole. But it's not really a metaphor about shape at all. The moral philosopher might posit that an individual doesn't actually fit neatly into categories, but rather works her way through one way or another. One is not made perfectly for a situation, but if determined, makes her way in spite of it.
