Nothing compares to pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. First cultivated in Central America around 5,500 B.C., the pumpkin may have been one of the first foods brought back to Europe from the New World in the early 1500s. Europeans called them “pumpions” -- derived from “pompon” a French reference to their rounded form -- and soon used them in pies and pastries of all sorts. By the time the Mayflower sailed for America in 1620, it’s likely the Pilgrims already shared common pumpkin interests with the Wampanoag who would, thankfully, help them survive their first year at Plymouth Colony.

Every family has a Thanksgiving food tradition, and Henrietta’s Cheese Puffs are no exception. What’s the recipe, you say? Well... it depends on who you talk to. Cream cheese? Maybe mayo… or not? Thin or sandwich bread? What is the delicate nature of bread disk toasting? Definitely plenty of Accent! But the specifics are a family secret now, aren’t they?

The lights are on and the wheel is turning at the Christmas Village in Philadelphia! The 17th annual event has set up shop at Philadelphia's City Hall and the iconic LOVE Park with this 65-foot-tall ferris wheel as an anchor for the holiday market of 120 rustic wooden shops, a double-decker carousel in the courtyard, Kids Train ride, and ice skating. 'Tis the season!

Just outside Florence, Italy, is one of the most famous of the Medici villas, Poggio a Caiano. Commissioned in 1470 by Lorenzo il Magnifico, the villa, also called Ambra, wasn’t complete until 1520. Ambra is a wonderful example of new Renaissance architecture with wide pillars, a glazed terracotta frieze and large centrifugal salon decorated with frescos. Of course it is not Italy without wine, and Ambra’s cellar features hundreds of bottles stored in terracotta racks. These old vintages look great, but it’s unclear what they might taste like.

The strong currents and heavy surf on the South Shore beaches of Nantucket can shift the sand and deposit all kinds of things from the ocean. Walking the coarse sands of Tom Nevers Beach, also called “Pebble Beach,” this piece of driftwood with a knot like a gnomon could tell you the time if you know how to read it. Which direction is north?

Like any good corner bar, Dirty Frank's provides you three things: drinks, dialog, and darts. First, drinks are a lubricant for the palate and preconceptions; "let's have a drink and talk." Second, great conversation is encouraged in a comfortable atmosphere, and Dirty Frank's is certainly... "comfortable."
