The swordfish (Family Xiphiidae) begins life with a high dorsal fin behind the head like that of the sailfish, but this becomes reduced as the fish grows. There are no pelvic fins. The bill is broad and flat. The function of the bill is uncertain, but swordfish bills have been known to puncture the hulls of wooden boats.

Following several difficult winters, in 1837 Philadelphia City Council authorized the building of the first ice-breaking boat, made for use on the Delaware River. The steam-driven boats could plow through a foot of ice, ensuring access to the Port. They were no longer needed by 1907, as the river ceased freezing.

In the 1920s the motion picture business was exploding in popularity, and across the country large movie "palaces" started being built. In Pittsburgh, the Loew's and United Artists' Penn Theatre opened in 1927 featuring more than 2,000 seats, and a Grand Lobby with a 50-ft high vaulted Venetian Ceiling, massive ornamental columns, marble staircase, bronze and crystal chandeliers and silk drapes. In 1964, the theater closed as television and the proliferation of smaller suburban theaters impacted business. The building was set to be demolished, but Henry J.

The "detectable warning surface" is a solution to aid blind pedestrians to fulfill requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
