Round Museum

A 'Pomodoro Sphere' is a work of contrasts -- a smooth, polished surface cracked to reveal a complex inner fragmentation of gears and mechanical forms. The artwork represents the "ideal city" and the relationship between humanity and technology. It looks different from every angle -- and in every city.

There have been gardens at Dublin Castle since at least the early years of the seventeenth century. These are situated immediately south of the Chapel Royal and the State Apartments within an enclosing stone wall. The gardens are entered through wrought-iron gates of Celtic-inspired spirals. Beyond a ‘four seasons’ garden lie four smaller gardens, one at each corner of the site. All contain specially commissioned works of sculpture. At the heart of the gardens is the grassy sward of the Dubh Linn Garden, where patterns representing sea serpents are cut into the lawn.

Look up, there’s a stained glass flower blooming overhead! Where could we be? An old bookstore? The vestibule of a church? The ramen bar at the restaurant?

This flat washer is doing no one any good lying around lost in the dirt, gathering rust, supporting nary a nut or screw anywhere. A washer without a fastener is a like a saucer without a cup, a ring without a Saturn, or a hoop without a hula. Where did it all go wrong?

There's not much rationality about these beliefs, which nearly always have emerged from excessive fears, unreasonable perceptions or manipulative motives. If you can't explain something, then why not express some confidence in the ridiculous?

Flag Day was established in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson to commemorate America’s adoption of the Stars and Stripes by the Second Continental Congress in 1777 and to promote patriotism and respect for the flag. First proposed in 1861 after the attack on Fort Sumter that started the Civil War, the effort was championed by Wisconsin school teacher Bernard Cigrand, who traveled around the country for 30 years and delivered nearly 2,200 speeches advocating for the holiday, eventually becoming president of the American Flag Day Association and the National Flag Day Society.

Triskaidekaphobia. That’s what you have if you fear the number 13. With 80 percent of U.S. hi-rise buildings with no 13th floor and hotels skipping it as a room number, it’s easy to see the impact. The fear is real enough that 10 percent of Americans will avoid doing all kinds of things on Friday the 13th, causing significant financial implications. And don’t even mention all those Friday the 13th movies. How many? 12.

If you were to be compared to a box of rocks, it would most likely not be favorable. But is it “as dumb as…”? Or, “dumber than a…”? Either way, the simile sets a low bar. And while we don’t know for sure about the box’s intelligence, we can say it weighs a friggin’ ton! Those rocks are dead weight, dumb or not.
