Purple trumpets announce the morning hours out on the terrace. Sensitive to cool temperatures, this glorious beauty is so happy that the dewdrops are not frosting over. Well, not in July, anyway. Maybe a butterfly or hummingbird will stop by soon?

What could be more appropriate to bear the weight of a bronze, 6 ton cannon guarding the Tower of London, then a fiercely decorated cast iron carriage wheel? Designed by the Royal Carriage Department in 1827, the carriage is richly decorated with the arms of Malta, and scenes from the island's history, which apparently include hands stabbing a lion in the center of the Round.

Botanically speaking, a coconut is a fibrous one-seeded drupe, but what the heck happened here? Who buys this many coconuts and smashes them on the sidewalk? It's so random -- like a gang of crazed monkeys got loose in the neighborhood.

Beautiful. Green. Round. Floating on the surface of Swartzwood Lake a pod of lily pads makes great landing spots for dragonflies and other insects buzzing around the water’s edge. They also provide cool shade for fish, turtles or frogs who like to hide beneath. While ecologically beneficial in some places, lily pads have extensive root systems growing below, and if they get overgrown can deplete dissolved oxygen in the water. Wildlife managers suggest pad coverage at a maximum of 25% of a water body. So, looks like we have to thin out this herd of Rounds!

Inside the U.S. Custom House in Old City Philadelphia, a three-story rotunda anchors the building's axial floor plan. On either side of the rotunda are two sets of circular stairs leading toward the secondary domes of the upper floors. The spectacular spiraling view is like a vision directly from Tim Burton's mind, though he wasn't the architect.

The three-story rotunda in the U.S. Custom House in the heart of Old City Philadelphia features a coffered plaster dome with a dramatic Fibonacci pattern spiraling toward the apex. Supported by eight fluted serpentine marble columns, the dome is surrounded by an eight-panel frieze depicting the winds in Greek mythology. The Art Deco design is the work of Ritter & Shay architects and was built between 1932 and 1934.
