If you feel you're being watched in the restaurant's foyer, it's probably not the security cameras. Look up. A nest of disembodied eyes looks back down, bloodshot, sensible to feeling as to sight. Art thou but a creepy chandelier of the mind, a false creation proceeding from the heat-oppressed brain?

Hey, we need to drill a new hole in the sidewalk and reposition that pipe. Move it up away from the fence about 12 inches, so drill right there. Wait... hold it... probably better a little over to the left. A little more... More... Now down a couple inches. Again... Nah, that ain't right... needs to be on the right side. Drill there. And down a few inches. Ah, dang.... well.... just put it back where it was before.

The diner menu is loaded with a dizzying array of food options. Sandwiches, wraps, and burgers. Nachos, avocado toast, soups, and salads. Seventeen different omelettes, French toast, and a variety of pancakes. You can get French toast baked INTO a pancake. It’s just too hard to decide. Sit and stare at the ceiling fan for a few minutes to clear your head.

And now waking up this morning I’m all alone, just a lonely little tire securely chained to this iron fence. Where did you go? I’m too old for this…

Yayoi Kusama creates her "Infinity Rooms" by installing hundreds of colored LED lights and polka-dotted spheres into mirrored spaces. Why the dots? When she was a little girl, she had a hallucination about a field of flowers that started talking to her. The heads of the flowers resembled dots that surrounded her as far as she could see and made her feel as if she was disappearing, or as she calls it, "self-obliterating."

The wait is interminable in the terminal. Standing here staring at baggage claim carousel D, you might wonder when your suitcase will appear. The conveyor belt isn't moving. It's been fifteen minutes already. Have they even unloaded the plane yet? It's like watching a potted plant grow.

This Himalayan rock salt lamp is amazing. Five glowing orbs like molten fruit are warmed by a 25 watt bulb inside the bowl. Now and then if you hold them while you're quilting, it will soothe your five arthritic knuckles. Pretty fantastic on the fifth day of June!

Looking through the layers of time, I have imagined a giant dollhouse for you, a swan song for A Second Home. It has been seven years since you invited me to Pittsburgh to turn an old brick rowhouse into something we could give to the city for a period of time—a sieve for the memories of days long past, and a spark for places not yet seen. Since the doors of A Second Home opened, I’ve heard many recollections from people who’ve visited.
