No Vault Lights Round
Who shot out the lights? Glass vault disks used to occupy these holes, and have been most likely smashed by constant pedestrian traffic or vandalism. In the 1830s, early vault lights were designed as a single large round lens, but when broken left a large unsafe hole in the pavement. Many small "bull's-eyes" allow light in, and much safer to walk on when missing. Just don't drop your car key!
