Commissioned by Marriott International, Inc. and built by sculptor Ned Smyth, it was installed on June 29, 1995.

The World War II Memorial in Washington, DC honors the 16 million who served in the armed forces of the U.S., the more than 400,000 who died, and the millions who supported the war effort from home. An open plaza with stone architecture and bronze sculptures, the memorial features two pavilions on the north and south sides, each with bronze baldachins, bronze columns bearing American eagles, World War II victory medals, and inscriptions noting the victories in the European and Pacific theatres of operations.

On May 6, 2023, King Charles III will be coronated in this church as the 40th reigning monarch in British history, succeeding his mother Queen Elizabeth II. The first documented coronation at Westminster was 957 years ago when William the Conqueror became King on December 25, 1066.
