Round Museum

All around the globe in the Biodiversity exhibit, information on several of the world’s ecosystems is presented, including the Southern Appalachian Biosphere Reserve: “Roughly a three-hour drive from Charlotte, some of the world’s oldest mountains set the stage for part of a UNESCO* Biosphere Reserve. The reserve protects North Carolina’s state-endangered green salamander and other “lungless” salamander species found nowhere else on Earth.”

Our life today is one of crisis... of movement... of tension. We do not know what our world will become. I try to say something about this uncertainty in my work. I try to communicate a sense of vitality and connection with the movement of life today... and to be a part of its movement. The social challenge of art today, in my opinion, is to start a dialogue with the people. I hope that is what happens here with the Grande Disco.

Naranjo-Morse and her family return annually to explore how this family of contemporary clay sculptures, hand-built on site in the summer of 2007, is changing over time. To the artist, these living art pieces represent growth, transformation, and Native peoples' relationships with the land: "Each sculpture speaks to the idea that a sense of self and of place are important." More than a decade later, weather has reshaped and repurposed the sculptures. Insects, birds and small animals find shelter in the sculptures, demonstrating that even on busy Washington, DC streets, nature thrives.

Looking at the choices available at the restaurant library, you could do worse than the intense drama of “Excelsior Hotel,” or dystopian fantasy of ”Panair.” And stacked neatly on a Round bookshelf? Excellent. But why are you reading while you’re eating?

No, no, your service to the Guild includes committee meetings, and legislative procedures, and voting on Guild actions — what’s a Munchkin to do? Well, at least the lollipops are always free.
