As the central processing location for immigrants coming to America from 1892 through 1954, the Main Building at Ellis Island welcomed more than twelve million immigrants through its doors. The histories of this group connect to the lives of nearly forty percent of the U.S. population, an amazing thing to consider. Now a museum, these stories are introduced with the World Migration Globe, a sphere with multi-media projections that present how migration patterns have occurred not only in the United States but around the world.

Just like tiny little 10-inch moons, these transparent umbrella-shaped creatures are one of 200 species of jellyfish and have remained largely unchanged in 500 million years of existence on Earth.

In New York Harbor stands the colossal copper Statue of Liberty, an enduring symbol of freedom, progress, and opportunity in America since its completion and dedication in 1886. Viewed from the balcony of the pedestal, Lady Liberty holds the torch in her right hand 150-feet in the air. Approximately eight feet in diameter, the original torch shone a welcoming light for immigrants arriving to the United States and Ellis Island. Replaced in 1984, the flame of the current torch is covered with gold leaf reflecting the sun by day and spotlights by night.
