So, what's this bubble at the bottom of the gate? Formerly a pet door and now a pet window? Its got its aesthetic advantages. A round shape softens direct sunlight from every angle and allows lots more light flow into the space. But with a high quality polycarbonate cover kitty won't be wandering freely around the neighborhood anymore, huh?

Broussonetia. It sounds so.... delicious, like that Italian bread with tomato and garlic. But no, that's bruschetta. What we're looking at there is the paper mulberry, a type of flowering tree with impressive Round fruit called a drupe. The fruit of the broussonetia can be eaten, sure, but not so much for flavor than for its laxative qualities. You've got to be careful with your paper mulberry no matter what, because once these Rounds fall and get spread around, the tree can form invasive thickets in ideal climates. Invasive, indeed.

Reprinted onto metallic laminate this early sixteenth-century engraving depicts the exploration of the North and South American continents from the dawn of modern cartography, with tall ships and sea monsters and ornate flourishes. It might be a version based on an Ortelius’ map, the mother map of the New World. If you lift your head up from your smart phone occasionally, you might see something new.

It's summertime at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk so you better get up real early and over to Britt’s Donuts. There will be a line before you know it. Since 1939 Britt's has been whipping up these crispy, warm babies to go with your coffee or milk or sunbathing. Some say they are the best donuts on the planet. No frills. No fuss. All delicious.
