In The Day the Earth Stood Still, the alien Klaatu arrives with a crystal rod that can hold the knowledge of the universe, and is promptly shot by the Army. In 2001: A Space Odyssey, the core of the HAL-9000's brain is an array of glass modules that Dave slowly lobotomizes to shut the murderous AI down.

Dedicated to the memory of one of the recognized "Fathers of Air Traffic Control," this trophy honors the lifelong achievements of an individual in the field of aviation. The Air Traffic Control Association, Inc. awards this for dedication, leadership, excellence, and professionalism in aviation and aviation safety.

She began her career as a painter, and showed in numerous group and solo shows in Japan before moving to New York in 1958. As an active member of New York's avant-garde, she staged numerous well-publicized happenings, at which she painted dots on herself, other artists, her friends, and the public.

All around this sculpture is a swirling mosaic of color. Highlighting one of many viewing areas at Blue Spring State Park in Orange City, Florida, this is a manatee sculpture overlooking the St. Johns River where up to 500 West Indian manatees spend the winter floating blissfully in the spring's cool waters.

The granular weathered surface stretches out its gray sea of tranquility, hard shadows from the sun. If not for the engraved Round giving signs of intelligent life, this concrete wall could be the surface of the moon.
