Round Museum

February 10th marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year with a brand new zodiac animal as the symbol -- the Dragon! As the only mythical creature among the 12 Chinese zodiac signs, the Dragon carries a special mystique, representing strength and great leadership. Chinese zodiac animals are also paired with a heavenly stem, one of five elements -- metal, water, wood, fire and earth. In 2024, the heavenly stem “Jia” (wood) and the earthly branch “Chen” (Dragon), means this is the Year of the Wood Dragon.

Guests will be coming to Edgar and Liliane's quaint country home this weekend, so make some plans for entertaining. The breathtaking cantilevered architecture of the home built on top of a waterfall should be inspiring, but a walk in the woods surrounding the house is amazing too. How about a few gallons of mulled wine heated in a giant spherical cauldron over the fireplace? That can be arranged!

If you've had a little spill, then having a ready-made pack of clean-up materials on hand would be helpful. This kit has absorbent materials, bags and gloves, for sure. But it's more than your basic roll of quicker-picker-upper paper towels for what you just sloshed on the kitchen floor. No, this is for events of a much more hazardous nature -- chemicals, oil, fuel -- those liquids that pose a much greater flammability risk than your cup of coffee.

From the looks of things, this door is closed. You have to look closely, but the message is definitively engraved into the metal. Even if you inserted a key into the Round and turned, it would not change the situation.

It's tea time, the traditional way in many countries to get you over the hump of the afternoon with a hot beverage and some nosh. Toss this Round teabag into some piping hot water and start steeping. Hopefully, we can have some scones, a few crumpets, and for god's sake, cut the crusts off those little cucumber sandwiches, OK?

Through the chicken wire and grid of Round holes you can rely on your sense of sight to augment your sense of gravity toward your destination. Now let's hope you don't land somewhere in between.

What's that eerie sound floating around from above? If we weren't in a hotel elevator lobby you'd think we were in the Paris Opera House. This pipe organ of a light fixture looks like it might start playing the music of the night at any moment. Is the Phantom of The Lobby here?

Spring Training is on the horizon -- pitchers and catchers are to report to Florida in two weeks to begin the arm stretching, ball throwing, and maybe some hiking, wood-chopping or hot baths? Smiley-faced scrubbers report to the window sill right now and just wait there patiently with that look on your face.

Down at the county fair you will be enticed for a ride on the wondrous Round wheel, spinning and blinking with colorful lights. There is a small height requirement, though -- you must be less than one inch tall. "Garden Railroad: Pennsylvania Through the Four Seasons" is a miniature world of trains at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh displaying an expansive array of buildings and landscapes representing the state.
