It's April, so it's cherry blossom season around Washington, DC. The buds are poppin' and the blossom peepers are out in force peepin'! Put on your walking shoes, grab your camera, a blanket, pack a picnic basket, cover your face and maintain proper social distancing at all times.

The Hayley Jane is a unique burst of fireworks from deep pink to pale yellow in the center of its quilled petals. One of three types of cactus dahlias, the large bloom is reminiscent of cactus flowers but the petals are rolled like tubes. It is the national flower of Mexico.

Maybe somewhere beneath the rosy flower of the Trifolium medium plant you might discover a four leaf clover to boost your luck, love, hope or faith. But why stop there? A lesser-known Irish legend says that a five-leaf clover is MORE lucky than a four. But don't hold your breath. The odds on finding a four-leaf are 10,000 to 1. A five-leaf? A million to one. It has been said that merely looking at a Marigold will improve your eyesight and lighten your mood. If you look closely at the center of the "hundred-leafed flower," you can see the intricate depth of the petals in the densely packed nested florets ringing the head. As they round out towards the edges, the depth of the petals disappears. Look again. You feel better already, right?

A cone-shaped morning glory gets its name because literally most species bloom in the early morning. The spiral bud unfurls to draw in warm rays of sunlight and an occasional visit from a pollen-crazed bumble bee. By day's end the petals have curled back up into a shriveled ring.

The sunflower looks like the sun, obviously, but did you know it looks AT the sun? When it is just a little bud, it will follow the sun as the sun moves across the the sky. When the flower finally opens its face to the world, it will look east. To greet the sunrise? No one knows for sure, but good morning sunshine!
