That cylindrical alcove you're planning to build just off your front entrance would look great with an artistic flair. Like a magnified champagne glass or the eye of an insect, some Round purple bubble glass might do the trick.

It's summertime, so it's likely someone in your personal sphere is visiting Walt Disney World. Maybe they're standing in front of the largest free-standing sphere in the world -- Spaceship Earth at EPCOT park. At 18 stories tall and 165 feet in diameter, this geodesic sphere has become the park's symbol as a center of innovation, international culture and human achievement.

Take me to your leader. Glowing purple and orange in the night, the 16 million pound Spaceship Earth has landed in south Florida. A Class 2 geodesic polyhedron with frequency of division equal to 8, the surface is covered with nearly 11,500 silver-faceted isosceles triangles. The ship is constructed of two spheres -- the outer skin of triangles, and an inner structural shell. It's not clear who's driving the thing.

Fire up the lathe, it's time to turn some wood. If it's a sphere you want, then you need to begin with a cylinder. Happily, wood seems to grow mostly in cylindrical forms from trunk to branch to twig, so a good chunk shouldn't be hard to find. The main choice is your turning method -- use a template, a jig, or a shadow? What about straight-line cuts the Sören Berger way? What does Doc Green say?

On the creaky front porch of the abandoned mansion. Close-up on the knob. Cue the scary music. Knob sloooowly turning, rusty gears softly squeaking. Hello? Who’s in there?

What's in the bubble? A spherical mirror makes light rays bounce in all different directions at once. The convex shape skews an image so the center objects appear much larger than normal and objects around the outer edges are much smaller, so the reality of your reflection is of the fun house variety.

With its squiggly purple corona and petals a-poppin', the Maypop Passion Flower is like a party in your garden. When the lights go down, these things start spinning and glow like neon. Start booming out some beats, cuz look, the Bumbles have already arrived!

The theme is contrast. Rough and rectangular against smooth and Round. You could throw a brick through a window but the lightest touch could pop a bubble. Apparently opposites attract.
