Round Museum

The autumnal equinox is upon us, and the Sun crosses the celestial equator as summer turns to autumn. Days become shorter and nights become longer. The green of the leaves retreats as chlorophyll breaks down, unveiling a red Round.

This 25-year old Ikea ottoman has lived in four apartments on two coasts, traveled across country, served variously and humbly as a coffee table, end tables, and guest seating, and survived two dogs chewing and two cats scratching. So why not give it a new life with a new finish and purpose as a footrest for grandmother’s chair and a piece of multi-function living room furniture.

Why, the orange one, of course. You could heat it. Or lubricate it. But, hope you don’t have to cut it off.

Standing here in the museum does it feel like you're being watched? The chandelier sure seems like its looking at you with a swirling yellow intensity. Like the terrible gaze of the Eye of Sauron. Is it that? Or is it the gang of eighteen warrior heads peering down from around the edges?

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família in Barcelona, Spain is the largest unfinished Roman Catholic church, a rich and ornate design by architect Antoni Gaudí. It is a marvel with many portals, towers, staircases and spires symbolizing intricate religious themes. Construction began in 1882, and when Gaudí took over the project the next year he may never have imagined he'd spend the rest of his life on it. When he was buried in the crypt in 1926 only a quarter of the project was complete.

The field peas are out of the field and into the bowl. Here you go, put those fingers to work these purple hulls won't shell themselves! We have a ham hock over here in a pot of water ready to boil. Get to work now, there are three more bags where that came from!

Traffic is terrible on the Schuylkill, as usual, and this oversize load is taking up the whole lane -- you've got to get around it! And it's a good thing you can see through it.

In 2018 Pittsburgh was the latest stop for a global world tour of the public art exhibition, “Cool Globes: Hot Ideas for a Cooler Planet." In 2022, several globes remain around the city like this one in PNC Triangle Park at Market Street and Liberty Avenue. The exhibit began touring in the U.S. in 2007, and then to other countries in 2009. With stops in New York City, Washington, D.C., Amsterdam and Jerusalem, more than 200 artists have contributed globes to the exhibit, each depicting ways to combat climate change such as recycling, avoiding pesticides and conserving water.

WIth its spunky silver nose cone and cute orange paws peeking out, how can you resist the Howard DGA-15P airplane here on the tarmac? Built during the World War II era, this single-engine aircraft has the space for a pilot and four passengers and ultimately was brought into military service during the war as air ambulances and transports for officers because of its size and efficiency.
