Round Museum

9/11 is a day shared in sorrow by so many for those who were lost. The slow healing begins with small joys. On the one year anniversary in 2002 these beautiful twin lights began shining upon us.

This bamboo basket is woven together with thin stalks, the handle wrapped in wicker. Dating back as far as ancient Egypt, materials woven together with plants, reeds, and grasses permeate all cultures of the world. And, of course, it has inspired that classic holiday song "Walking in a Wicker Wonderland."

The absence of evidence is sometimes helpful evidence. From the afterimage it seems that something was spray painted here on the iron grate. The most vivid clue is that it was Round and needed to become yellow.

The forest tent caterpillar is a social insect and travels in packs, hanging out in silk "tents" in trees and consuming any foliage in its path. But this lonely soul could be doomed. Unless this concrete slab is next to a delicious deciduous tree or two.

The cottages at Twin Lake Village are rustic New England beautiful. The wood paneling on interiors are covered in knots, the round blemishes that are the markings of smaller branches embedded into the grain during the trees growth.

Sending signals, receiving signals. A lightning bolt emblazons the round dish on the cell communication tower at the summit of Mount Kearsarge. Situated on a flat open rock area with a fire tower, with the 360 degree view of the central New Hampshire countryside you can just about see forever.

Looking close and looking far -- what you can see changes with the depth of your perception. The support posts on the front porch of the Twin Lake Village hotel provide a little Round porthole view to the trees beyond, if you choose to take a peek.

From a colorful wicker rocker on the porch of the Twin Lake Village hotel, you can look out on the beautiful vista of rolling hills down to the shore of Little Lake Sunapee. If you look closer at the porch architecture, you can see a smaller Round view, the crackled paint bearing witness to more than a century of summer vacations.
