Queen Anne's Lace with Fly Round
The lacy umbel of this regal plant is named for Queen Anne of England and the ornate clothing typical of the 1700s. The flowering plant is related to the carrot and is sometimes called a wild carrot or a bird's nest. With a tiny red flower in the center of a 3 or 4 inch Round, it is said to represent a drop of blood when Queen Anne pricked herself when making the lace. But really it's just a delicate doily fit for a fly.
