The grand Galleria in the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles is lined with carved marble columns, hand painted frescoed murals, cast bronze stairwells and doorways, massive wood-beamed ceilings, and if you look up you'll see intricate chandeliers like this one. When the hotel opened in 1923, it was the largest in the west and quickly became a glittering backdrop for Hollywood celebrity and grandeur; several movies were filmed in the hotel, and the Academy Awards were held here in the 1930s and 40s.
