Salk Institute Bench Round
Founded by Jonas Salk, who developed the polio vaccine, the Salk Institute of Biological Studies in San Diego is a center for research into neuroscience, genetics, immunology, and molecular biology. Architect Louis Kahn designed the concrete and wood buildings that make up the campus as an open plan to promote collaboration. The plaza between the buildings is bisected by a flowing stream that leads to a pool framed by these round benches.
