St. Mungo Map Round
At the center of this Round brass relief map in Glasgow is the St. Mungo Museum, named after the city's patron saint from the 6th century. The museum sits on the site of Bishops’ Castle, thought to have been built originally in the 12th century. It was the site of many battles over the centuries including the Wars of Scottish Independence, when William Wallace recaptured the castle from the English in 1296, and the long skirmishes between supporters of Mary, Queen of Scots, and her enemies in the 1500s. Ultimately it was demolished completely in 1789.
