A Snail’s Pace Round
Find a plant stem, attach a sticky foot, and up you go. When snails get on the move it may be slow but it is always deliberate. Most of their life is spent feeding in the herbaceous layer closest to the ground. But they will climb in specific circumstances to escape predators such as lizards or rodents, or when it gets too warm and they need to aestivate to survive. In this dormant state, they will seal themselves inside their shells with a protective layer of mucus to prevent moisture loss.
