This sculpture design was a result of a series of workshops with local youth groups and thorough in-depth research of various key elements that define this border region. Line being the earliest known means of recorded human communication is at the core of this design. In Ireland we have some of the best examples of ancient line marking on stone left by our ancestors. At Newgrange line markings were carved onto large boulders in the form of multiple concentric circular forms or through chevron styled markings. The multiple line forms on this wall have been carefully set out to convey a unique perspective of what Peace means to people in this region. We live on an island where lines have subconsciously been a significant point of discussion and conflict for many years. I see the design as what our own unique written text could be - wall markings created to communicate a message of raw emotion and honour this prosperous new era of Peace.
