On the campus of Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia the Michael J. Smith, S.J. Chapel of St. Joseph is a central place of worship for the University community. The Chapel was designed by African American architect Thomas James Gavin Jr. and constructed in 1995. Founded in 1851, St. Joe's is one of 28 Jesuit Colleges and Universities in the United States.
