The Sphere Round
As a monument to world peace, The Sphere is a 25' tall metal sculpture created by Fritz Koenig for the City of New York in 1971. It originally stood on Austin J. Tobin Plaza at the World Trade Center until the terrorist attacks and collapse of the towers on September 11, 2001. The sculpture survived this horror, and though damaged, was relocated in this condition to this spot in Battery Park in March 2002. In the summer of 2017 The Sphere was moved back to Liberty Park overlooking the September 11 Memorial and was re-dedicated on August 16th.
