Philadelphia is a city of murals with nearly 4,000 gracing many different neighborhoods. Since 2006, the striking “Fuego Nuevo (New Fire)” had anchored a corner lot at 3rd and Girard Streets, but recent property development has laid claim to it. Painted by Cesar Viveros with assistance from Gabrial Vidal, the mural integrates symbols from Aztec and Mayan cultures, commemorating Mexican heritage with Philadelphia landmarks.
