habitus Round
Curtains and chimes, wind and water. At Municipal Pier 9 on the Delaware River, curious visitors wander through a mysterious forest of cloth in the huge empty warehouse. With the bay doors opened, the curtains billow, bells ring, and distant, droning voices waft through the room. Artist Ann Hamilton debuted her interactive art installation, habitus, in the fall of 2016, giving visitors an opportunity to activate the artistic space -- pulling ropes to propel the cylindrical curtains to sway and twirl. The word habitus comes from the sociological term for the way people perceive the world around them.
