Kannon Bronze Round
This 12th century Japanese bronze repousse depicts Kannon, a Buddhist divinity that personifies compassion, and has appeared in both male and female forms. Originating in 1st century India, Kannon worship spread to Japan in the 6th century from Korea and China. Dating from the latter part of the Heian period, this votive plaque is offered to a shrine in fulfillment of a vow.
