Polish Hill Plug Round
The Polish Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh has been an ever-evolving place for generations. In the early 1800s it was called Springfield Farms and the property of English landowners. As industry developed, immigration increased as jobs in the steel mill and rail yards grew. The area was called Herron Hill. Polish immigrants began arriving to the city in the late 1800s and became the predominant population of the neighborhood by the 1960s, alongside a diversity of Irish, German and African-American residents as well. In 1969 or 1970, residents petitioned the City to identify the neighborhood as Polish Hill.
