Metro Friendship Round
Nothing says friendship like the Brutalist architectural style. The name is derived from the French phrase “béton brut” for raw concrete, a central material in designs. The Friendship Heights Metro station in Washington, DC features a cathedral-like hub and spoke ceiling at one landing as you descend long escalators to the train tunnels with coffered concrete barrel-vaulted ceilings. The minimalist design style is polarizing, sometimes described as stark, cold, and rigid, and other times as efficient, open, and awe-inspiring. What do you see?
