Stingy Jack Round
Celtic legend has it when Stingy Jack passed away in Ireland neither heaven nor hell would take him because of his deceitful, scheming nature. But The Devil gifted him a glowing ember from hell, which Jack placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to light his way as he wandered around in his strange limbo eternity. The glowing turnip was his defense against evil spirits. Over time, scary smiling faces were carved into it and he became known as "Jack of the Lantern.” ‘Spose that’s better than “Jack of the Turnip.”
