Created by Colorado artist Sadie Young, with collaborators from Spectra Art Space, 'The Tangled Self' uses yarn and fiber art to personify the inner monsters of the shadow self, or the unconscious parts of our personalities that we often hide from ourselves. Feelings like rage, grief, fear, and shame are made colorful, playful, and approachable, while small "pockets of positivity" – inspired by nature – symbolize the harder-to-find, yet integral, aspects of joy, worthiness, and acceptance. This installation invites us to face these emotions and emphasizes that both the shadow and the positive are interconnected aspects of the self. It encourages us to embrace all sides of ourselves with compassion and understanding to foster healing and wholeness.
