When you arrive at the Broadway Roundabout in Belfast, Northern Ireland, what should appear but a 100 ft diameter sphere rising in the middle of the highway?! Designed by Wolfgang Buttress in 2011, the RISE sculpture is a double Round — a geodesic sphere suspended inside a sphere that makes quite an impression. And as these things go, the unofficial nicknames given by some Belfasters and passing motorists include "Balls of the Falls", "the Testes on the Westes" and "the Westicles" referring to the sculpture's location above the A12 Westlink highway and Falls Road, and to the sixth-grade humor prevalent when presented with any pair of Rounds.
