Creswell Manhole Round
The S.J. Creswell Ironworks was a brass and iron foundry and stove maker located in Philadelphia. When it opened in 1835 it was in the same block of Sassafras Street (now Race) as the Betsy Ross House, and on its closing in 1969 was located across town at 23rd and Cherry Streets not too far from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Today there are still manhole covers stamped with the company name sprinkled all around Center City.
