B&O Roundhouse Round
Founded in 1827, the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O) had a dramatic economic, social, and cultural impact on our society. Its nearly 200-year history is deeply intertwined with the story of America and helped shaped our nation through invention, innovation, and ingenuity. Built in 1884 by architect Ephraim Francis Baldwin, the roundhouse building served as the B&O's Passenger Car Shop for repairs and maintenance. Occupying nearly an acre, this 22-sided structure is one of the most iconic structures in Baltimore. The original components of the 60 ft turntable are in the center of the room that is still in use to this day.
