Sunset With A Lizard At Battery 231 Round
Fort Zachary Taylor began as a Gulf Coast blockade fortress during the Civil War. Redeveloped as part of the harbor defense of Key West through World War II, a reinforced concrete heavy gun battery was completed in 1944 but never fully armed. These days, the site features a more modern installation of radar and satellite transmission equipment, which is guarded by a very imposing lizard hiding amidst the rocky shoreline.
