Cobblestones Round
From Europe to Latin America to the United States, rounded and water-worn cobblestones grace streets and plazas around the world. Arranged by hand and set in sand or mortar, the use of cobblestones dates back before ancient Rome. Back then, Pliny the Elder enjoyed a large, elaborate Tuscan Villa paved with cobbles. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, cobbles were everywhere in the mid-1800s, and you can still see them today in many places, including Elfreth's Alley, America's oldest continually residential street.
