An elephant's ear is huge to be sure, probably the biggest ear on the planet earth. So it makes sense that if you roll out some pastry dough into a huge flat Round shape, coat it with sugar and cinnamon and bake it to a light and flaky crust, that you would call it an Elephant Ear. The Big Wheel, the Sugar Frisbee, the Manhole Cover – none of those names are quite right.
