Aphelion in La Jolla Round
The Sun is Round and the Earth is Round, but the Earth's orbit is Round-ish. It is slightly elliptical, consequently there are times when the Earth's distance from the Sun varies. For example, like today at 9:47 am Pacific Daylight Time in the U.S., the Earth will achieve aphelion – its most distant point exactly 94,507,803 miles from the Sun. By the time the sun sets in La Jolla, California, it will have gotten a little closer again before disappearing behind the horizon.
