The Black Stuff Round
Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here's to the wearing o' the Green and the drinking o' the Black. In 1759 when Arthur Guinness signed the 9000 year lease for the St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland, he probably couldn't have foreseen the ubiquitous symbol his dark porter brew would become. By 1799 it was the only beer he brewed, and today is nearly synonymous with Ireland and enjoyed in 150 countries around the world. Guinness estimates that nearly 10 million glasses are consumed daily, but today that number is bound to spike much higher. Sláinte mhaith!
