US Capitol Rotunda Round
Standing under the dome in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda is an impressive view. Finished in 1824, The Capitol has gone through an extensive restoration process since 2015 to repair deterioration due to water infiltration, upgrade electrical and mechanical systems and repaint the Rotunda to historically accurate colors. Up in the eye of the Rotunda and 180 feet from the floor is a painting entitled The Apotheosis of Washington by Constantino Brumidi. Created in 1865, it depicts George Washington rising to the heavens in glory, flanked by female figures representing Liberty and Victory/Fame and surrounded by six groups of figures, each about 15 feet tall.
