W is for Water Wheel Round
Now seen as quaint and peaceful, water wheels have been powering water-adjacent businesses since the 3rd and 4th centuries B.C.E. Millers, papermakers, and blacksmiths relied on the wheel to grind, hammer, and mash their materials. Water wheels now enjoy retirement after centuries of hard work and inspiring the next generation of water power: hydroelectric dams.
