For cooking a Thanksgiving turkey you have some options: oven, deep fryer, or electric shock. Each has its risk/reward considerations, so let’s review. Butterball counsels that a 10-pounder will oven roast in about 3 to 4 hours... but it could be dry. Alton Brown says the bird could deep fry moist and delicious in under 45 minutes... but starting a grease fire is a danger. Ben Franklin electrocuted his turkey in a matter of minutes to be “uncommonly tender”... but “inadvertently took the whole [shock] thro’ my own Arms and Body.” Regardless of the method you choose, you certainly don’t want to face your Thanksgiving guests with Ben’s confession, “I am Ashamed to have been Guilty of so Notorious A Blunder.”
