Shoofly Pie Round
Flour. Sugar. Butter. Pretty essential pie-making ingredients to start with. But add 3/4 cup of molasses and a brown sugar crumb topping, and now you have a Shoofly! Why not switch up the boring old pumpkin or apple for Thanksgiving and give the traditional Pennsylvania Dutch wet-bottom pie a try? Legend has it that the name was derived from Shoofly the Boxing Mule, a popular traveling circus animal in southeastern Pennsylvania in the 19th century. So popular, in fact, that a brand of molasses produced in Philadelphia was named after him.
