A symbolic combination of a circle and a cross, the Celtic Cross represents an eternal compass and a merging of divine energies. Over time the stone surface supports the growth of a lichen, a slow-growing, leaf-like organism that is actually a symbiotic combination of a fungus and algae. Lichens are also eternal, considered to be among the oldest living things on Earth.
