The “Hibotan” or “moon cactus,” is a Round-topped cactus species that is grafted together with two different cacti. This bright orange scion is a Gymnocalycium mihanovichii and the rootstock is from a Hylocereus. All of the moon cactus varieties trace back to a single Japanese nurseryman in 1940 who hybridized 10,000 seedlings to try and pump up the color.
